List of CFR Sections Affected (LSA)

In a previous tip called Updating Federal Regulations, information was provided on how to use the List of Sections Affected (LSA) to make sure the regulation you are using is current. LSA is a finding aid that lists proposed, new and amended Federal regulations that have been posted in the Federal Register. Each issue contains the CFR part and section number(s), a description of its status and the Federal Register page number(s) where the change can be found. GPO Access provides searchable and browsable access to LSA from 1997-present.

In addition to using LSA to check to make sure the regulation you are using is current, you can also do historical research to find out when a regulation was removed or revised or moved to a new title. Search through all of the compilations if you're not sure of an approximate year when a CFR change occurred. The Wirtz Labor Law Library has all four compilations available in print: 1949-63, 1964-72, 1973-85 and 1986-2000. The LSA Compilation 1986-2000 is also available to browse or search GPO Access.

Hein Online has added the Compilation of Sections Affected to their Federal Register Collection. Now, all the compilations can be accessed electronically (1949-63, 1964-72, 1973-85 and 1986-2000).
