If you are looking for information about Federal Government Agenices,
the following resources should assist you:
- The
United
States Government Manual provides the names of and links to the agencies in its online version, available
through GPO Access. Click on "Browse" under the search box and scroll down the list to the heading
"Executive Agencies". Click on the results in text or PDF format to see a description of and link to each individual
agency. Directories from the current year back to 1995 are available.
- The U.S. Government's official web portal
www.USA.gov also provides a directory of government departments and agencies.
In addition to links to the Federal Executive, Legislative and Judicial
websites, there are also links to State, Local and Tribal websites.
- The
U.S. Blue Pages is a website created by the General Services Administration
(GSA) that allows you to search by state, city, area code, agency or service, and keyword.
Phone numbers and/or website links are provided for each
organization. In addition to links to Federal agencies, you can obtain contact information at
the local level.
- Another avenue to finding Federal Agencies is the
Abbreviations and Acronyms of the U.S. Government page from the Indiana
University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) Library. This site is a list
of agency acronyms with links that go directly to the official website for the
agency or program listed.
- Duke University also provides access to websites of and brief
descriptive information about major agencies of the United States Federal
Government through
USLinks.
Use the Alphabetical Index or Hierarchical Views feature on the left side of the page.
The selection of agencies roughly follows those listed in the United States
Government Manual. Also included are the standing committees of both
legislative bodies of the Congress and selected
"Information Clearinghouses"
(not included in the Government Manual).
