In addition to the Library's online catalog, those who visit the Library in person can use print copies of the CIS Congressional Index (for publications dated 1970 - present) or the CIS U.S. Serial Set Index (for publications dated 1789 - 1969) shelved in the Law Library's Reference Area to obtain information regarding specific Congressional publications dated up to 2001. The CIS Index (call no. Z1223.Z9.C8) has two parts for each session of Congress; Part I -- Abstracts and Part II -- Index. Indexing is by subject, title, bill number, report number, document number, hearing number, and committee and subcommittee chairmen. The Index volume supplies a CIS accession number (for instance, 99 H341-31, as in the example record provided above) and allows you to locate item descriptions in the Abstract volume as well as the full-text of publications on microfiche. The CIS U.S. Serial Set Index (call no. Z1223.Z9C65) is divided into 12 parts, with each part covering a range of Congresses.

For access to electronic versions of the CIS indexes, you can use LEXIS:
