Electronic Voting Demonstration

Hear This Article

The state of Hawaii has improved accessibility in the voting process since 2004. It is one of the first states to utilize electronic ballots allowing voters with disabilities to partake in the process and be able to cast their votes. ATRC will be open to demonstrations to show voters how they can use this technology. Demonstrations will be held everyday from 1:00pm - 3:00pm at the Computer Lab at ATRC, no appointment necessary, up until the day of general elections.

Microsoft Accessibility Resource Centers

Hear This Article
Microsoft ( www.microsoft.com/enable/centers ) has chosen Assistive Technology Resource Centers of Hawaii (ATRC) to serve as a resource center for Microsoft's technology solutions available on computers. Microsoft has created a free demonstration CD to help promote and educate the public (including those with disabilities, teachers, educators, etc.) on the modern advancements of computer accessibility that Microsoft Windows XP now offers.

Typically, a person with low vision that wants to utilize a computer would have to invest in a very expensive magnifier or text enlarger. An individual with a disability can now visit ATRC's technology center and receive training on Microsoft Accessibility features. The technology center is equipped with over 20 computer terminals accessible to users with a variety of disabilities.

Through the outreach program, ATRC will distribute the demonstration CDs to businesses, service providers, educational facilities, and most importantly individual with disabilities at no cost.
