Welcome to NLTS2

Welcome to the Web home of the National Longitudinal Transition Study-2 (NLTS2)!

We thank everyone who took the time to apply for the NLTS2 Database Training on January 13-15, 2009. The response was overwhelming, and the quality of applications was high. Unfortunately, the training capacity was only 30 slots. Applicants were selected on the basis of a number of criteria, and the process was conducted by an outside organization. We expect that additional training sessions will be held in the future. Please check the NLTS2 website regularly for news about upcoming trainings.

Raw data now available.

NLTS2 is:

  • Being funded by the U.S. Department of Education and is documenting the experiences of a national sample of students who were 13 to 16 years of age in 2000 as they move from secondary school into adult roles.
  • Focusing on a wide range of important topics, such as high school coursework, extracurricular activities, academic performance, postsecondary education and training, employment, independent living, and community participation.
  • Producing information of interest to many audiences, including state and local education agencies, the U.S. Congress, the U.S. Department of Education, parents, teachers, researchers, advocates, and policy-makers.

Thank you to the almost 6,000 parents and guardians who completed phone interviews in 2007. Almost 3,000 youth interviews also took place. We are indebted to them for contributing their valuable time to provide information. We greatly appreciate their participation and continued support for this important study. It has been rewarding to work with parents/youth around the country. Results from the NLTS2 Wave 3 parent/youth interview are now available.
