Contest Judging

  1. First, second and third place prizes will be awarded in each of the five contest categories.
  2. In each of the categories 1-4, the six contestants whose vehicles have the lowest run times will be selected as finalists for that category.  Finalist's design briefs will then be reviewed.  Based on this review, first, second, and third place prize winners will be chosen for each category.
  3. In category 5, the six contestants whose vehicles have the highest figures of merit (FOM) will be selected as finalists.  Finalist's design briefs will then be reviewed.  Based on this review, first, second, and third place prize winners will be chosen for each category.
  4. In category 6, six scale and six futuristic vehicles will be selected as finalists. In both, appearance will be evaluated on:
    (a) design concept: what key MAGLEV features the vehicle's appearance illustrates.
    (b) construction plan: how well the use of materials, construction techniques, special features, etc. support the design concept.
    (c) craftsmanship.

Prizes will be awarded based on these criteria and the design brief.  Note: the futuristic designs, which, however imaginative, do not reasonably attempt to show some special feature of MAGLEV cannot receive an award.
