Meeting of the U.S.-Russia Working Group on Counterterrorism

Deputy Secretary of State Richard L. Armitage will co-chair the eighth meeting of the U.S.-Russia Working Group on Counterterrorism (formerly known as the Working Group on Afghanistan) with Russian First Deputy Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Trubnikov on July 26, 2002, in Annapolis, MD. They will be supported by a significant number of senior foreign policy, security, and military offiicials.

The Working Group is an important forum for enhancing U.S.-Russia cooperation to deal with terrorist threats worldwide. This will be its first session with a broadened mandate, as endorsed by Presidents Bush and Putin during their May 2002 summit in Moscow.
