PALM BEACH COUNTY MAN INDICTED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

R. Alexander Acosta, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, and Anthony V. Mangione, Special Agent in Charge, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), announced Timothy Beckett, 21, of Palm Beach County, was indicted today by a federal grand jury sitting in West Palm Beach, Florida.

The Indictment charges Beckett with one count of possession of child pornography, in violation of Title 18, U.S.C. § 2252A(a)(5)(B); one count of producing child pornography, in violation of Title 18, U.S.C. § 2251(a); and one count of distribution of child pornography, in violation of Title 18 U.S.C. § 2252A(a)(2). These charges are based on images of minors on Beckett’s computer, which were downloaded using the Internet. The Indictment also charges Beckett with three counts of attempting to coerce three Palm Beach County minors to engage in a sexual activity, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 2422(b).

If convicted, Beckett faces a mandatory sentence of 15 to 30 years’ imprisonment on the production count, a mandatory sentence of 5 to 20 years’ imprisonment on the distribution count, and up to 10 years’ imprisonment on the possession count. In addition, Beckett faces a sentence of 5 to 30 years’ imprisonment on the coercion counts.

Mr. Acosta commended the investigative efforts of the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Palm Beach Sheriff’s Office on this matter. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Lothrop Morris of the Northern Division, Criminal Section in West Palm Beach.
