I agree with Betsy - This increase in "blank" or "garbled" messages is more
than likely due to a virus that is floating around cyber space (and living
in our computers). Please be careful when opening Emails and attachments -
when in doubt - don't open it.  I have been in contact with Lee Mann, Tech
specialist for the NIFL List Serves and he agrees with the warning from
Betsy and encourages us all to utilize virus protection programs.

  Some postings to the listserv have had odd or suspicious subject lines, eg
Welcome to my hometown.  If you see a subject line that sounds like it may
not have anything to do with family literacy and the text is gibberish, I
would guess it has been sent to the listserv because someone's computer has
a virus.  Sometimes these "off" postings have attached files--highly
suspicious! Obviously--do not open attached files of any suspicious posting!

  Lately it seems there has been a rash of these weird emails posted to the
listserv.
