I am also looking for such books. I searched the web yesterday and =
came up with some possibilities, but I know that those books written =
specifically for low literate adults are often not well written. =
Librarians often suggest reading award-winning early adolescent books. =
I have recently read and enjoyed: Hachet, Holes, and Bud, Not Buddy. =
All Newbery winners.
Years ago, the Governor's Commission on Literacy got grant money from =
the Kentucky Humanities Council for: New Books for New Readers.
We asked some new readers to consult on the writing of about a half =
dozen and they were excellent. Sorry I put my set in an archives =
collection somewhere. Perhaps the Kentucky contingent can locate a =
source.
