VOLUNTEER TAX PREPARATION TRAINING SCOPE AND PRODUCTS
Watch for news of Process Based Training coming this fall. In addition to teaching tax law, PBT focuses on the steps needed to prepare accurate returns by combining reference materials, interviewing techniques and electronic filing software.
Supplementary Technical and Content Clarification changes to volunteer training Publications 678, 678W, 4012, 1155/1155e and Link & Learn Taxes are now available. See below for links to more volunteer training products.
The volunteer tax preparation training materials are developed throughout the spring and summer of each year, based on feedback from internal and external stakeholders. The printed training products (Publications 678, 1155, 678-PR, 678-FS, etc.) normally begin shipping in mid-November of each year. Electronic copies of the products are normally available on IRS.gov in early November. Link and Learn Taxes, the e-learning training application, is normally available with tax law for the upcoming filing season in early November. Additional tax law and technical updates are posted on this site in mid-December.
