For over 90 years the American Social Health Association (ASHA) has focused on the education and prevention of sexually transmitted diseases. Through its offices in Washington, DC, and Research Triangle Park, NC, ASHA leads advocacy efforts for proper attention and funding to STD research and programs; creates educational materials for patients, providers, policymakers, and the press; conducts survey and evaluation research in the area of sexual health; operates key national call centers and Web-based interactive services to provide information, counseling, and referrals on sensitive health topics such as STDs and cervical cancer prevention. ASHA provides educational materials for both print and electronic dissemination and distributes more than 2 million low-cost educational pamphlets a year in English and Spanish through public STD and family planning clinics, college health clinics, and private providers. ASHA’s Washington staff works to educate members of Congress and other important voices in health policy about the urgency of research and frontline programs in the STD field.
Single copies of many pamphlets on sexually transmitted diseases and herpes are available free. Serial publication: the Helper (journal), quarterly and HPV e-News, bimonthly.
