The term seismic seiche was first coined by Anders Kvale in 1955, to describe oscillation of lake levels in Norway and England caused by the Assam earthquake of August, 1950.

1986 California - Mexico Border Region

Epicenter
5.3 Twenty nine people injured, one critically and at least 50 buildings damaged in the Newport Beach-San Diego area. Preliminary estimate of damage 720 thousand dollars. Also some damage reported in the Tijuana area, Mexico. A small landslide occurred near Lakeside in eastern San Diego County. Felt throughout the coastal area of southern California, from Santa Barbara to San Diego, east to Palm Springs and as far as Yuma, Arizona.

1990 Hindu Kush Region

Epicenter
6.4 At least 43 mountain climbers were killed on Pik Lenina, USSR by an avalanche which was triggered by the earthquake. Felt (IV) at Dushanbe, Garm, Gezan, Gissar, Khorog, Kulyab, Langar, Leninabad, Namangan and Pyandzh; (III) at Andizhan, Fergana and Ura-Tyube; (II) at Tashkent, USSR.
