Environmental Planning

Careful planning precedes all of TVA’s environmental activities. Regulations are reviewed, needs are defined, and targets and objectives are set. The planning process includes these topics:

Environmental review process

  • Sets out a standardized process for TVA to follow in ensuring compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act.
  • Ensures TVA-wide consistency in conducting environmental reviews and in implementing, tracking, and closing environmental commitments.
  • Directs the conduct and documentation of environmental reviews appropriately, efficiently, and cost-effectively.

Environmental regulatory and legislative review and outlook

  • Provides TVA with regulatory and legislative interpretation and guidance.
  • Identifies and evaluates environmental regulatory and legislative issues that affect TVA.
  • Defines and coordinates responsive actions.

Objectives and targets

  • Directs how TVA establishes, communicates, and maintains environmental objectives and targets.
  • Establishes the annual review and analysis of environmental aspects and impacts of TVA’s operations and activities.
  • Develops, maintains, and reports on the Environmental Impact Index.
