1Formula supplementation is defined as supplementation of
breast milk with formula (with or without other supplementary liquids or
solids) among infants breastfed at the age specified (2 days or 3
months). The denominator for the 2 day or 3 month rate is the number of
infants breastfeeding at 2 days or 3 months, respectively. Formula
supplementation rates at 6 months are not shown by geographic area due
to an insufficient number of women breastfeeding at 6 months in many
geographic areas. Counties and cities not sampled or with <100 women sampled (Alabama's Jefferson County; Denver, Colorado; Louisiana's Orleans Parish; Missouri's St. Louis County and City; Nevada's Clark County; Ohio's Franklin County; and Tennessee's Davidson County) are not reported on in this table. States with fewer than 100 breastfed infants at 3 months of age are reported on, but the wide confidence interval around the estimate should be noted. |
