Each month the Current Employment Statistics (CES) program surveys about 150,000 businesses and government agencies, representing approximately 390,000 individual worksites, in order to provide detailed industry data on employment, hours, and earnings of workers on nonfarm payrolls.

Next Releases:

  • Real Earnings for August 2008 is scheduled to be released on September 16, 2008, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time.
  • The Employment Situation for September 2008 is scheduled to be released on October 3, 2008, at 8:30 A.M. Eastern Time.

The unemployment rate rose from 5.7 to 6.1 percent in August, and nonfarm payroll employment continued to trend down (-84,000). In August, employment fell in manufacturing and employment services, while mining and health care continued to add jobs. More...
