TVA Seeks Comments on Proposed Power Line Routes

Mar. 5 , 2004

ARLINGTON, Tenn. – TVA will hold an open house next week to hear public comments on alternative routes for a proposed new transmission line to supply power to a new substation being built by Southwest Tennessee Electric Membership Corporation.

The open house will be from 3-7 p.m., Thursday, March 11, at the Memphis/Shelby County Visitors Center at I-40 exit 25 in Arlington.

The new transmission line and substation will improve reliability of electric power in the area and provide an additional source of power for the area’s growing power needs.

The proposed 161-kilovolt transmission line would begin at an existing 161-kV line near the Hickory Withe community and end at the substation site in Gallaway. TVA is considering seven alternative routes, each of which is approximately six miles long.

Detailed maps showing the alternative routes will be available at the open house, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss issues and receive comments on the proposals. The maps are also available at www.tva.com/power/projects.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Fowler Tucker, TVA, 1101 Market Street MR 4G, Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801; call toll free 800-362-4355; e-mail newtransline@tva.gov; or visit TVA’s Web site. The deadline for comments is April 12.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
