Southeast Region Drought

Parts of the Southeast were wet during August while other areas were dry. This month marked the third consecutive month in which rainfall averaged near normal for the region as a whole. However, long-term conditions remained dry, with September 2001-August 2002 signalling the fourth consecutive September-August with below-normal precipitation.
