TVA To Close Part of Melton Hill Campground for Improvements

October 20, 2006

TVA will close a portion of the Melton Hill Campground on Monday, Oct. 23, to begin improvements to the area and its facilities.

Improvements include the installation of water and electrical hook-ups, construction of universally accessible sites along with parking spaces, and improvements to the shoreline to help protect and improve water quality in the reservoir.

Camp sites 1-10, located on the front loop, will be closed during the construction. Campers should avoid the area during construction. The remaining sites at the campground will remain open until the scheduled seasonal closing of all TVA campgrounds Nov. 13.

The $250,000 improvement project is expected to take about a year to complete and also includes adding sewer service and a septic system, a group camping area, a vending machine area and updated educational signs; enhancing the day-use area and its access; and installing fish attractors.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
