TVA Seeks Comments on Environmental Assessment for Transmission Line

October 25, 2006

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – TVA is seeking public input on a draft environmental assessment for a proposed transmission line in the Bowling Green, Ky., area.

TVA proposes to build a 161-kilovolt transmission line to connect Bowling Green Municipal Utilities' new substation to the TVA system. The six-mile line would extend from TVA’s existing East Bowling Green-South Scottsville transmission line to the substation site on Cave Mill Road.

The proposed transmission line and BGMU’s planned substation are needed to meet the growing demand for power in the area and help ensure that the people and businesses in the Bowling Green area continue to receive reliable electric service.

The draft environmental assessment is available for public review beginning Friday, Oct. 27. A copy of the document also can be obtained by contacting Jim Williamson, senior NEPA specialist, 400 W. Summit Hill Dr. (WT 11D), Knoxville, TN 37916-1499, phone 865-632-6418, fax: 632-632-3451, or email jfwilliamson@tva.gov.

Comments can be provided by mail, fax or email to Williamson. All comments on the draft environmental assessment must be received no later than Monday, Nov. 27 to be considered.

In preparing the assessment, TVA examined potential environmental impacts associated with constructing and operating the proposed line. TVA will review and consider public comments before completing the environmental assessment and reaching a decision about the proposed transmission line.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.6 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
