TVA To Hold Open House on Proposed Power Line

July 25, 2006

HOLLY SPRINGS, Miss. – TVA will hold an open house on Thursday, July 27, to hear public comments on a proposed new power line to serve a new Holly Springs Electric Department substation, both of which are needed to maintain reliable electric service and serve growing power demand in the area.

The new transmission line be about 4.5 to 5.5 miles long, connecting an existing TVA transmission line to the substation site located east of Highway 311 about 1.5 miles south of Highway 72.

Demand for electricity in the Holly Springs area is growing at a rate of about 4 percent per year and is expected to overload existing equipment during the summer of 2008. The new facilities would be in-service by the summer of 2008.

TVA will present alternative routes for the line at the open house to be held from 3 -7 p.m. CDT at H. W. Byer School, 4178 Highway 72 in Holly Springs. Detailed maps showing alternative routes for the proposed 161-kilovolt power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact Allen Miller, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s power project website. The deadline for comments is Aug. 28.
