TVA Certifies Five Clean Marinas on Fontana Reservoir
April 19, 2006
ALMOND, N.C. – TVA certified five marinas on Fontana Reservoir today as Clean
Marinas in recognition of their efforts to preserve and protect water quality in the Tennessee
River system.
Clean Marina certificates and flags were presented to representatives from Almond Boat
Dock, Alarka Boat Dock, Greasy Branch Marina, Prince Boat Dock and Crisp Boat Dock at a
recognition ceremony at the Lemmons Branch boat ramp.
“To receive this designation, a marina must meet all federal, state and local regulations
related to marina management,” said Steve Akers, TVA’s Clean Marina coordinator for Fontana
Reservoir. “People working together to implement new marina waste ordinances that were
approved in Graham and Swain counties made this program successful.”
Currently, 61 marinas in the Tennessee Valley have achieved the high environmental
standards required for Clean Marina certification. Efforts leading to Clean Marina certification
include safe fuel management techniques, protecting shorelines from erosion, and providing
educational information and learning opportunities for boaters. More information on clean
marinas is available at http://www.tva.com/environment/water/boating.htm
