TVA To Hold Open House on Proposed Power Line in Choctaw County

February 11, 2005

ACKERMAN, Miss. – TVA will hold an open house Thursday, Feb. 17, to hear public comments on a proposed new power line in Choctaw County.

The transmission line would extend approximately 8.5 miles from TVA’s Red Hills-Ackerman-Sturgis 161-kilovolt line north of Ackerman to 4-County Electric Power Association’s proposed substation north of Mississippi Hwy 12 at Weir. The line would provide continued reliability while meeting the growing power demand in the area.

TVA will present alternative routes for the transmission line at the open house, to be held from 3 -7 p.m. at Choctaw County Community Center, 898 College St. in Ackerman.

Detailed maps showing alternative routes for the proposed 161-kilovolt power line will be available, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss potential concerns and receive comments on the proposals. A map is available here.

For additional information or to submit comments, contact W. Allen Miller, TVA, 1101 Market St. (MR 4G), Chattanooga, TN 37402-2801, call toll free 800-362-4355, e-mail newtransline@tva.com or visit TVA’s website. The deadline for comments is March 18.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve approximately 8.5 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
