Dust Storm over Libya

A vast plume of Saharan Desert dust was spreading off Africa's northern coast over much of the Mediterranean Sea on Oct. 3, 2003.

Plumes of Saharan Desert dust (tan pixels) were blowing off the coast of Libya northward over the Mediterranean Sea on Sept. 10, 2003. This true-color image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
