Fires in Brazil, Argentina, and Paraguay

Hundreds of fires first pictured on August 1 were still visible in this recent image of South America captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite on August 20, 2003.

Hundreds of fires (marked in red) were detected across Paraguay (center) on August 13, 2003, by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Aqua satellite. Argentina is at bottom left of the scene, and Brazil is at right.
