The incumbent will serve as Physical Scientist in the new Air
Resources Laboratory's (ARL) Air Quality Modeling Research and
Development Group. The group will research and develop advancements
for Eulerian air quality forecast models-including advanced
particulate matter modules and chemical data assimilation-and
approaches for integrating air quality capabilities with weather,
climate, and ecosystem models. The group will also incorporate its
own research and advancements from other researchers into prototype
models for future versions of the operational National Oceanic and
Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) air quality forecast system. In
addition, the group will help set overall directions for NOAA's air
quality modeling efforts.
The incumbent will pursue his or her own research activities,
leading to publications and improvements for operational forecast
models. The incumbent will also participate in ARL's development
efforts associated with the transfer of new air quality forecast
model capabilities to the NWS for eventual incorporation into
operations. In addition, the incumbent will provide expertise to
address issues that arise in the operational model.
