 DR. QUINNAN ACCEPTS POSITION AT UNIFORMED SERVICES UNIVERSITY 

     Gerald V. Quinnan, Jr. M.D., Acting Director, Office of Blood
Research and Review, has announced that he has accepted a teaching
and research position with the Uniformed Services University of the
Health Sciences.
     Dr. Quinnan, who will leave the Center for Biologic Evaluation
and Review (CBER) on August 1, 1993, joined FDA in 1977 as a
research associate and medical officer in the Division of Virology,
Bureau of Biologics.  In 1980, he was appointed Director of the
Herpes Virus Branch of the Division of Virology, and in 1981, he
was named Director of that Division.  In 1988, Dr. Quinnan became
Deputy Director of CBER.  
     From 1989 to 1992, Dr. Quinnan served as Acting Center
Director.  He subsequently resumed his duties as Deputy Director,
and in 1992, when CBER was reorganized, he was named Acting
Director of the Office of Blood Research and Review.
     Dr. Quinnan, who has received several Public Health Service
medals and awards, holds the rank of Rear Admiral and Assistant
Surgeon General in the U.S. Public Health Service.
     As of August 1, Jay S. Epstein, M.D., will assume the position
of Acting Director of the Office of Blood Research and Review.  Dr.
Epstein has been with FDA since 1981; he currently is the Acting
Director of the Division of Transfusion Transmitted Diseases.
