Forest Service Mourns the Death of a Law Enforcement Officer
WASHINGTON, September 22, 2008—U.S. Forest Service Chief Abigail Kimbell says “it is with deep sorrow that I pass this message to you that 51-year old Kristine Fairbanks, a Forest Service Law Enforcement Officer, was shot and killed after making a routine traffic stop on the Olympic Peninsula, in Washington State this past Saturday. This incident reminds all of us that law enforcement is a very dangerous business. Please keep Kristine’s family, loved ones, and friends, and fellow Forest Service employees in your thoughts and prayers during this time of sorrow.”
Officer Fairbanks had served with the United States Forest Service for 22 years, including 20 years in Law Enforcement. She is survived by her husband and 15-year old daughter.
