Warning Shot Fired at Penitentiary
A single warning shot was fired this morning to break up several fights among inmates at Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem.
At approximately 9:10 a.m., several fights broke out concurrently on the recreation yard and in a recreation building adjacent to the yard. The cause(s) of the fights are under investigation but may have been gang-related.
After issuing multiple oral warnings to stop fighting, an officer posted in a tower overlooking the yard fired a warning shot to break up the fights on the yard. Correctional officers broke up the fight in the recreation building.
Six inmates were taken to the prison’s disciplinary segregation unit. No injuries to staff or inmates were reported.
The inmates in segregation are:
Talamentes, Francisco (Malheur County - Attempted Assault 2)
Rodriguez-Solis, Manuel (Clackamas County - Rape 3)
O’Donnell, John (Multnomah County - Robbery 1)
Vasquez-Vasquez, Marcos (Multnomah County - Robbery 3, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle)
Walker, Thomas (Multnomah County - Robbery 3, Coercion)
Gossman, Shannon (Jackson County - Burglary 1 x3, Theft, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle)
