Officer Assaulted at Snake River Prison
Officer Assaulted at Snake River Correctional Institution
 
FOR RELEASE: March 19, 2001
 
On March 19, 2001 at approximately 2:45 p.m. (MST) Correctional Officer James Hust was assaulted at Snake River Correctional Institution in Ontario, Oregon by an inmate with a weapon. Officer Hust was transported to the Holy Rosary Medical Center in Ontario for treatment of several stab wounds sustained in the assault. He is in serious but stable condition at this time.
 
The assailant was restrained by Officer Hust and other SRCI staff and was escorted to segregation. Officer Hust, age 24, has been employed with DOC since April 2000.
The inmate identified by DOC staff in the assault is Orin Williams, age 23. Williams is serving a sentence out of Washington County for Burglary First Degree and Attempted Burglary First Degree. He was admitted into custody of the Oregon Department of Corrections in April 1996, and his earliest possible release date is July 2003.
 
The Oregon State Police have responded to the institution and are conducting an investigation. A weapon was recovered and has been turned over to investigators.
