Deer Ridge Correctional Institution invites public to tour

Medium facility open November 30th & December 1st

Madras, OR – On behalf of the Oregon Department of Corrections and the staff of Deer Ridge Correctional Institution in Madras, DRCI Superintendent Sharon Blacketter today issued an invitation to the public to tour the new prison's 1223-bed men's medium security facility on November 30th and December 1st. The facility will be open to the public from 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm on November 30th and 10:00 am to 5:00 pm on December 1st. "This is a great opportunity for the public to have an insider's view of the states newest prison," said Blacketter. "We truly appreciate the community's support of our facility, and we are look forward to showing the public first-hand what we've been working together so hard to achieve."

"Inmates will start arriving after the first of the year, so this will be the only opportunity for the public to tour the medium facility," added Community Development Coordinator Parrish Van Wert. "With the completion of the medium facility, this milestone marks 11 years of planning and construction, mostly over the past two years. The construction team with the Department of Corrections and Hoffman Construction of Portland, Oregon completed the facility on time and on budget."

Deer Ridge Correctional Institution is located four miles east of Madras off B Street (which becomes Ashwood Road). Signs will guide attendees to the entrance of the medium facility once they reach the main entrance. The location is wheelchair accessible. For additional information or accessibility assistance, please contact Parrish Van Wert at 541-325-5212.
