GOV. RITTER SEEKS SBA LOAN RELIEF FOR COLORADO SPRINGS FIRE VICTIMS

Gov. Bill Ritter today asked the U.S. Small Business Administration to provide disaster-relief loans to victims of last month¿s devastating Castle West apartment building fire in Colorado Springs.

"This was a tragic fire," Ritter said. "Two people died, several were hurt and the residents of 114 apartments lost their homes. Only 1 percent of the residents were covered by insurance, so I'm hopeful the S.B.A. can provide some assistance in the form of low-interest loans."

Under provisions of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, the S.B.A. can issue an administrative disaster declaration for this type of fire. The declaration would then make available low-interest loans to replace furniture, clothing and other personal belongings lost in the Jan. 16 fire.
