GOV. RITTER TO SIGN LANDMARK WATER QUALITY BILL IN PUEBLO ON MONDAY

Gov. Bill Ritter will sign a landmark bill in Pueblo on Monday to protect Colorado water quality. The bill has been championed by Rep. Buffie McFadyen, D-Pueblo West, and was co-sponsored by Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass Village.

House Bill 1132 will, for the first time, allow water court judges to consider environmental impacts and water quality along with water quantity as part of the determination on large permanent transfers.

"This bill protects the lower Arkansas Valley, but more importantly it establishes a legal precedent for protecting water quality statewide," Gov. Ritter said.

WHO: Gov. Bill Ritter and Rep. Buffie McFadyen WHEN: 9:30 to 10 a.m. Monday, March 12, 2007
