GOV. RITTER NAMES MARGARET T. CHAPMAN AS JEFFERSON COUNTY TRUSTEE

Gov. Bill Ritter today announced the appointment of Margaret T. Chapman as Jefferson County public trustee. Chapman will be sworn in at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday (March 20).

A resident of Golden, Chapman has for the last three years worked at the state Capitol as a legislative aide for Rep. Gwyn Green. A graduate of the University of Missouri with a degree in journalism, Chapman has worked for the National Association of Counties, Colorado Counties Inc. and the Missouri Association of Counties facilitating programs to increase participation and communication among member counties.

She also has been director of education and marketing for the Colorado Association of Realtors. Prior to joining the staff of Rep. Green, Chapman was the assistant branch manager for TIME-LIFE Libraries, Inc.

Chapman replaces Mary Schaefer, who retired after serving as the Jefferson County public trustee for the last eight years.

Public trustees handle all public transactions for their counties, including foreclosures of deeds of trust, releases of deeds of trust, and tax escrow accounts for land purchase contracts for properties.

Public trustees serve a four-year term and their annual salary is $48,500. The appointment does not require Senate confirmation.
