September 17: CMS Announces CAP Postponement, ASCO Comments on FDA Advisory Committee Draft Guidance 

On September 10, CMS announced it would postpone the 2009 Medicare Part B Competitive Acquisition Program. Also, ASCO has issued comments to FDA on its draft guidance for the public and FDA staff on the considerations for whether to convene advisory committee meetings.

Patients with rheumatoid arthritis at increased risk of lung cancer

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - The risk of lung cancer is increased in patients with rheumatoid arthritis, even after taking into account the effects of tobacco and asbestos exposure, according to a case-control study in US military veterans.

Post-mastectomy nodal radiation unnecessary for node-negative breast cancer

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Irradiation of axillary and supraclavicular lymph nodes is unnecessary in women whose axillary nodal status following mastectomy is negative, according to research presented Sunday at the 50th annual meeting of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology in Boston.

Breast Cancer Symposium Highlights New Studies on Breast Cancer Screening, Treatment and Access to Care 

Washington, DC— New research on breast cancer treatment, detection and disparities in care were released today in advance of the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium, being held September 5-7, 2008, at the Washington Hilton.

 

2008 Breast Cancer Symposium Awards $14,000 to Oncology Fellows 

Alexandria, VA—Organizers of the 2008 Breast Cancer Symposium today announced the winners of the Symposium Merit Awards. Fourteen physicians-in-training will receive funding to assist with their travel to attend the Symposium, to be held September 5-7 in Washington, DC.
