NEW! SAMHSA Awards Funds to States for Youth Suicide Prevention
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced the award of 18 grants totaling almost $27 million over three years to support suicide prevention efforts undertaken by state organizations. The Garrett Lee Smith Memorial Act provides authorization and funding for grants addressing youth suicide.

NEW! Updated SPRC State Data Fact Sheets for all 50 States
Updated state data fact sheets for all 50 states and Washington DC are now available. The fact sheets, which cover 1999 to 2005, describe statistics on deaths by suicide, estimated hospitalized attempts, and data on medical costs, work loss costs, gender, race/ethnicity, age and method. VA suicide prevention panel completes draft report
United States Department of Veterans Affairs The Blue Ribbon Work Group on Suicide Prevention has praised the Veterans Administration for its suicide prevention strategy, which includes initiatives such as the Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the Mental Health Center of Excellence. SAMHSA Fiscal Year 2009 Applications for Campus Suicide Prevention Grants Informational Conference Calls now available
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is holding informational calls for fiscal year 2009 Campus Suicide Prevention Grant applicants. These will be taking place on October 14, October 28, November 6, and November 18. SAMHSA Awards Funds to 12 Tribal Organizations for Youth Suicide Prevention and Early Intervention Programs
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced the award of 12 grants totaling more than $16 million over three years to support suicide prevention efforts undertaken by tribes/tribal organizations. SAMHSA accepting applications for Campus Suicide Prevention Grants
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, Center for Mental Health Services is accepting applications for fiscal year 2009 for Campus Suicide Prevention Grants. This program is designed to assist colleges and universities in a comprehensive approach to prevent suicide attempts and completions and to enhance services for students with mental and behavioral health problems, such as depression and substance abuse, which put them at risk.
