Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad 2008 Musicians on International Concert Tours
February 17, 2008 The U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, in partnership with Jazz at Lincoln Center, is proud to present The Rhythm Road: American Music Abroad, a concert tour of professional American performers of jazz and urban music in countries with limited exposure to live American culture. The 2008 program season involves 56 countries, 10 bands, and 5 free concerts in the United States to kick off or follow the musicians’ tours abroad. Currently touring are Exegesis Jazz Quartet and The Ryan Cohan Jazz Quartet.
Exegesis is a jazz group that seeks to bridge the gap between modern music technology and improvisation, using live samplers and interactive music software to create the sonic illusion that more than four musicians are performing. In 2002, they released their debut album, The Order of Chaos. Exegesis Jazz Quartet is touring in the following countries from February 17 to March 17:
The Ryan Cohan Jazz Quartet searches for new musical territory to explore while remaining deeply rooted in jazz and blues traditions. Conversant in a variety of world-music styles and rhythms, the Chicago-based quartet has distinguished itself on major stages throughout the United States and Canada by balancing dynamic and tight ensemble playing with explosive, expressive solos. The Ryan Cohan Jazz Quartet is touring in the following countries from January 30 to February 28:
