American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL)
|
ACYPL is one of the Office of Citizen Exchanges' "Traditional Public-Private Partnerships" (TPPP) grantee organizations. ACYPL was formed in 1966 as a non-profit bipartisan educational exchange organization to enhance mutual understanding of political systems, foreign cultures, and ideologies among emerging American and foreign political leaders, ages 25-40. The bilateral, multi-partisan exchanges provide appointed or elected officials, staffers, or political party members the opportunity to study comparative political systems, with special emphasis as appropriate on elections, campaigns, and the legislative process. ACYPL's partners — governmental or NGO — in each exchange country coordinate participant selection and local programming and provide domestic hosting costs.
Each year, the Office of Citizen Exchanges and ACYPL coordinate priority program countries and implement 20-25 projects of mutual interest. The balance between the Department and ACYPL interests is a distinguishing characteristic and symbolic of the kind of partnerships the Office of Citizen Exchanges seeks to develop with its TPPPs.
