Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology (ONC)Evaluation of a Standards Harmonization Process for Health Information TechnologyOn June 6, 2005, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) issued a request for proposals (RFPs) to develop, create prototypes for, and evaluate a process to unify and harmonize industry-wide health IT standards development, maintenance and refinements over time. HHS seeks proposals to contract with a not-for-profit, private sector, multi-stakeholder group to develop and evaluate the feasibility and effectiveness of a process to harmonize standards to support widespread interoperability among healthcare software applications, particularly electronic health record systems. The deadline for submitting proposals for this solicitation was July 7, 2005.
