Statement by Mike Leavitt
Secretary of Health and Human Services
Regarding Appointment of Interim National Coordinator for Health IT

I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Robert Kolodner to HHS as the Interim National Coordinator for Health Information Technology. He joins us at a time when we are making steady progress in advancing the Presidents Health IT initiative, and his experience in patient care, health IT, and government will be invaluable to those efforts.

Dr. Kolodner comes from the Veterans Health Administration (VA), where he has been serving as Chief Health Informatics Officer and has been involved with the oversight and development of My HealtheVet and VistA -- the VAs electronic health records systems.

I look forward to benefiting from the depth and breadth of his experience and knowledge, and thank him for agreeing to join the HHS team.
