Frequently Asked Questions

Pets

  1. Can I have a dogs in the campgrounds?   Yes, but they must be on a leash at all times. Please do not take a vicious or unusually noisy animal camping with you. Also with native animals out at night you might want to keep your animal in your camping vehicle so as not to disturb the other campers with its barking. Remember within developed campgrounds, dogs are not allowed in the lakes or rivers for swimming unless it is a seeing or hearing impaired dog.
  2. Can I have a dogs on forest trails?   In most areas the answer is yes, but they should be under your control at all times. In addition there are leash requirements in some high use area - Deschutes River Trail south of Bend and in the Three Sisters Wilderness, including Green Lakes Trail, South Sisters Climbers Trail, Moraine Lake, Broken Top, and Todd Lakes Areas. Due to increase user conflicts regarding dog behavior, to protect wildlife and to preserve the Wilderness experience, dogs will be require to be leashed and under physical control within these areas. Also, during the winter months dogs are not allowed north of the Cascade Lakes Highway unless they are working dogs. A working dog is one that is used for ski journing or on dog sled teams. You need to get a permit from the local offices when using your dogs in this manner.
