The Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and Crooked River National Grassland are proposing treatment on invasive plant sites totaling approximately 17,000 acres. The purpose of this project is to reverse the negative impacts caused by the invasive plants and to restore ecological communities and function at the impacted treatment sites in a cost-effective manner that meets current management direction. The establishment and spread of invasive plants can be slowed, with timely action. The proposed action was developed to treat invasive plants and to utilize the new tools and management direction in Pacific Northwest Region Invasive Plant Program - Preventing and Managing Invasive Plants Record of Decision and Final Environmental Impact Statement (www.fs.fed.us/r6/invasiveplant-eis/).

The Proposed Action would utilize integrated weed management treatment that include a combination of treatment methods (manual, mechanical, cultural, ground-based herbicide application, and site restoration). The project is intended to effectively treat invasive plants while minimizing adverse effects from treatment. Additional acres may be treated as part of an early detection, rapid response strategy. Implementation is expected to reduce the rate of spread of existing and future infestations of invasive plants on the Forests and Grassland.
