If you are moving and you receive Social Security benefits, you do not need to call or visit us—just go to www.socialsecurity.gov/changeofaddress and change your address online. |

When does the change take effect?You decide when the change takes effect. You can request that an address and telephone number change become effective up to three months after we process your online request. [Top] |

What else is important to know?You can change only your own address and telephone number online. You cannot make changes for anyone else, such as family members, even if they receive benefits under the same account number. [Top] |

Are there other ways I can change my address?Yes, you can change your address by calling us toll-free 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778 for the deaf or hard of hearing) weekdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. local time, or visit your local office. When you call, we can answer specific questions and provide information by automated phone service 24 hours a day. We treat all calls confidentially.
