The Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project provides data derived from the records of hospitals and other providers. These series feature statistical summaries of cases including information about diagnoses and procedures. The project is a partnership between the federal government’s Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, state governments and industry. The resulting databases
“... bring together the data collection efforts of State data organizations, hospital associations, private data organizations, and the Federal government to create a national information resource of patient-level health care data. … to enable research on … cost and quality of health services, medical practice patterns, access to health care programs, and outcomes of treatments at the national, State, and local market levels.”
