HSRProj - Health Services Research Projects in Progress
To find current research projects on the topic of research projects, use the Health Services Research Projects in Progress (HSRProj) database. HSRProj covers the ongoing grants and contracts in health services research. It is available from: http://wwwcf.nlm.nih.gov/hsr_project/home_proj.cfm .
It is available through the National Library of Medicine
Gateway under the Other Collections category near the bottom of the page. Additional information is accessible through NICHSR's
Database and Retrieval Services (also listed in the Enrichment Section of this module).
HSRProj builds upon a prototype database developed by the staff of AcademyHealth (formerly Academy for
Health Services Research and Health Policy) and the Cecil B. Sheps Center at the University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill with funding from the Pew Charitable Trusts.
It contains descriptions of research in progress funded by federal and private grants and contracts for use by
policy makers, managers, clinicians, and other decision makers. Data are solicited from public and private
foundations and funding agencies so that researchers can locate potential collaborators and identify organizations
interested in sponsoring such research.
 Users
can search the database to retrieve names of performing and sponsoring agencies, names and addresses of principal
investigators, beginning and ending years for the project, levels of funding, information about study design, and
research methodology, including population and source of the project data.

| Abstract: This career development award supports the growth of the applicant into an independent health services researcher focusing on health care access for medically underserved children and families. The proposed projects in this award will examine predictors of stable health care access among medically underserved populations. The candidate's research plan primarily examines associations between child, maternal, policy-level factors and stability of Medicaid coverage at the national and local level through two linked studies. In the first study the candidate investigates national trends (1997-2001) in various dimensions of health care access (insurance status, coverage gaps, access barriers) by low-income children and families, both welfare-recipients and non-recipients, using nationally representative datasets. In the second study, the candidate conducts a longitudinal cohort study of medically underserved children from Philadelphia to identify child, maternal, and policy predictors of discontinuous Medicaid coverage and they begin to examine links between unstable coverage and child health care utilization and child health. In the future, these projects will lead to examination of the relationship between unstable Medicaid coverage, child health care utilization, and ultimately, child health and developmental outcomes. |
