Climate
Sunny, with humid rainy periods throughout the year. Sudden and severe
thunderstorms are common. Mild winters (December-February) with lows below 32
degrees Fahrenheit . Summers (May-September) are hot and humid. Daily high
temperatures exceed 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Summer humidity ranges from 75-100%.
Wear comfortable sportswear in season, with walking or hiking shoes recommended.

Established
Vicksburg National Military Park was established February
21, 1899. It was the fifth national military park created by Congress. Ownership was
transferred from the U.S. Department of War to the U.S. Department of the Interior August
10, 1933. It is the eighth oldest national park in the United States.
Hours of Operation
Vicksburg is open year-round. The park Tour Road: Open daily from 8:00am to
dusk. The Visitor Center and USS Cairo
Museum are closed on December 25 (Christmas Day).
Visitor Center: 8:00 a.m. to
5:00 p.m.;
Cairo Museum: 8:30 a.m. to 5:00
p.m., November to March;
9:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., April to October.
Location
Warren County, west-central Mississippi and Madison Parish, northeast
Louisiana. The park entrance is 1/4 mile north of Interstate 20, use exit
