The Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA), founded in 1958, is a nonprofit scientific and technical professional organization of more than 100 firms that discover, develop, and produce prescription drugs, and biologic products. The Association's members produce most of the prescription drugs used in the United States and about one-half of those used in the non-Communist world. The Association encourages high quality standards for products, encourages product research, engages in and fosters research into the socioeconomics and organization of health care in the United States and abroad, prepares and disseminates information on behalf of the industry, and works with other organizations for the advancement of medical science and the development of optimal health care standards and delivery. The Association publishes consumer-oriented informational materials on drug utilization and on other aspects of drug use and health.
PhRMA publishes pamphlets and booklets on such topics as drug utilization, quality control in the U.S. drug industry, drug research, and the pharmaceutical industry.
