larger image
The global blended temperature product for March - May 2000 shows warm anomalies concentrated across the Northern Hemisphere. Some of the warmest persistent anomalies were across portions of Kazakhstan southward across Afghanistan, Pakistan and Iran. These areas have also received little if any rainfall this season and a large portion of this region was suffering from drought. Warm anomalies were also noted across much of Central and Eastern Europe, northern Africa and much of North America. Portions of these areas were also suffering from droughts. In contrast, cool anomalies were observed over most of the Southern Hemisphere. Large cool anomalies were noted across portions of the major continental areas of Australia, South Africa and South America. Portions of South Africa and Australia also had experienced frequent rains and flooding during this season. See the Global Analysis and Global Regional Analysis pages for more details on the global climate.
