Delivering Solutions for a World in Motion

Unique Training Opportunity

Mark your calendar! NHI will deliver the course Pavement Distress Identification & Techniques for Rehabilitation & Design at the University of Nevada in Reno from Sept. 28 to Oct. 8. This 10-day course, which is a combination of two popular NHI pavement-courses, includes field visits to the Superpave Lab Center and to WesTrack, the state-of-the-art road testing facility. This course is open to all pavement professionals — public or private, from the U.S. or abroad. To purchase individual seats, please contact John Ziegler by phone at (702) 329-4955 or by e-mail at zieglerj@nce.reno.nv.us. The course fee of $1,200 per person covers:

  • A week of instruction by internationally recognized experts in pavement engineering.
  • Training materials.
  • Two field visits.
  • Certificate of completion.
  • Evening activities and opportunities for networking.

Under Development

The finishing touches are being put on the three-day course Pavement Management Systems (Course #13135). Designed for managers and engineers in government agencies, this course outlines step-by-step how to develop, implement, use, and maintain a pavement management system. Interestingly, the creation of pavement management systems is a multidisciplinary process, bringing together individuals from functional areas such as policy, planning, and information technology. NHI expects to begin offering this course by fall of this year. Stay tuned.

The course Hot-Mix Asphalt Materials, Characteristics, & Control (Course #13145) is being developed for government employees and contractors involved in the production and construction of hot-mix asphalt pavements. Government inspectors and managers of HMA pavement construction will find the course useful, as will contractors who work at production facilities and pavement lay-down sites.

Participants of this course will be familiar with the:

  • Various properties of asphalt, aggregates, and mixtures.
  • Procedures for handling, storing, sampling, and testing materials.
  • Difference between the desirable and undesirable results of tests used for controlling and analyzing the quality of hot-mix asphalt.
  • Quality assurance procedures.
  • Perspectives of owners and government agency employees, as well as contractors.

NHI expects to begin offering this course in January 1999.
