Southwest Kansas Drought Page

SW Kansas Drought Summary: .Recent rainfall across much of
western Kansas as reduced the severity of the drought into the moderate
category except over Hamilton, Morton and Stanton counties where a
severe drought still exists. Previously almost all areas of western Kansas
were in severe drought. The impacts of the drought are both hydrologic
and agricultural.

Drought Outlook Through October: The drought across the region
is expected to persist with some improvement over Colorado and
southeast Nebraska. The precipitation outlook for September through
November calls for equal chances of above, below and near normal rainfall.

Climatological Summary: Precipitation totals for the month of July
were generally 1 to 3 inches over most of Kansas with the heaviest
amounts over the northeast. There were also some localized areas over
the state that received over 5 inches of rain, but these areas mainly
received a majority of these rains in one heavy rainfall event.
